What goes well with summer? COCKTAILS! I love cocktails and I love the yummy food that Cabana has to offer, so for me the two go perfectly together. Cabana have launched a new tropical cocktail menu and I was invited along to their Leeds Trinity restaurant to give them a try. It’s a tough job, but someone has got to do it.
The new cocktail menu features 19 new recipes developed by mixologist Darius Pawlowski and I was lucky enough to try 6 of them. Anymore than that and I would’ve been on the floor, but let’s not dwell too much on that and get back to pretty cocktails.
First up was this delicious Frozen Strawberry Caipirinha. I can’t get enough of strawberries when they are in season and I knew straightaway that I was going to love this one. With crushed ice, sugarcane rum and lime & sugar, it was the perfect opener to the evening and super refreshing.
I was still sipping on my caipirinha when this pitcher of Ipanema Iced Tea arrived. This is Cacheça, fresh orange juice, passionfruit, ginger beer & grenadine. I love the colours, the floating passionfruit and you can really taste the ginger in this one. The pitcher makes it great for sharing and again it’s super refreshing.
It wasn’t just about the cocktails, we also got a selection of snacks to nibble on too. My favourite nibbles were the Spicy Malagueta Pork Scratchings and the Parmesan Chunks & Wild honey. I would never have thought about pairing cheese and honey together (too crazy for me to even think about), but it tasted delicious.
Sticking with passionfruit next to arrive was a Passionfruit Batida. A Batida is a classic Brazilian cocktail and it’s just like a milkshake with alcohol. It’s made with Cacheça and condensed milk and not all that different from a lassi, especially if you try the Mango flavoured one. I did and it tasted amazing. Super creamy and a great alternative to dessert if you don’t think you have room for one after all of that yummy Cabana food.
My favourite cocktail of the night and one I will always order from now on, was the Blueberry & Acai Caipirinha. It tastes so good and it is a great addition to the growing caipirinha menu.
And finally we have the Spicy Malagueta Kick Caipirinha. I’ m not ashamed to admit that I was a little scared to try this one at first. I love the Malagueta sauce, but in a cocktail it just sounds wrong to me. Surprisingly it works really well and the name is certainly appropriate. You get the kick from the sauce and a warming sensation inside when it hits your tummy. No picture i’m afraid, but it looks quite similar to the Blueberry & Acai cocktail above. Instead of being topped with blueberries, it’s topped with a raspberry.
If you are feeling inspired enough to try and make your own cocktails, check my upcoming recipe posts that will tell you everything you need to make your own Batidas and Caipirinha’s. Or you could just take the easy route and head to Cabana Brasilian Barbecue and enjoy 2 for 1 on cocktails, everyday between 12-7pm and from 10pm-close.
